A special category of news programs are entirely editorial in format. These host polemic debates between pundits of various ideological philosophies.
Over the last several years, news programs (especially commercial network ones) have tended to become less oriented on hard news, and often regularly include "feel-good stories" or humorous reports as the last items on their newscasts, as opposed to news programs telecast more than thirty years ago, such as the ''CBS Evening News with Walter Cronkite''. From their beginnings up until the last fifteen years or so, evening television news broadcasts continued featuring serious news stories right up to the end of the program, as opposed to today's editions featuring such anchors as Katie Couric, Brian Williams, and Diane Sawyer.

Known for being the creator of the scorpion kick, Higuita made an impact reinventing the way how goal keepers played in a game.
He came out of retirement in 2007 to sign for Venezuelan club Guaros de Lara FC. In January 2008, aged 41, he signed for Colombian second division team Deportivo Rionegro. In June 2008 he signed for Colombian first division team Deportivo Pereira and retired in January 2010.
On the pitch, Higuita was known for his eccentric playing style, taking unnecessary risks and actively trying to score goals. He was also prone to blunders, and it was a mistake by him that knocked Colombia out of the 1990 World Cup, when he seemingly dithered with the ball at his feet near the halfway line enabling Cameroon striker Roger Milla to dispossess him and score, putting Cameroon through to the quarter-finals. Higuita himself described it as "a mistake as big as a house". As a result of such behaviour, Higuita was nicknamed ''El Loco'' ("The Madman") by media and fans alike.
Higuita is friends with Diego Maradona and played in the Argentine's farewell match in 2001.
Higuita was imprisoned in 1993 after getting involved in a kidnapping. Acting as a go-between for the drug barons Pablo Escobar and Carlos Molina, he was largely responsible for securing the release of Molina's daughter by delivering the ransom money. He received $64,000 for his services, which breaks Colombian law as it is an offence to profit from a kidnapping. He was incarcerated for seven months before being released without charge. Commenting on the case, he has stated that "I'm a footballer, I didn't know anything about kidnapping laws." This however in the documentary The Two Escobars, it was claimed to be because of his visit to Pablo Escobar, in prison due the fact that they questioned Higuita only about Pablo Escobar rather than the kidnapping.
Because of the term in prison Higuita was not fit for the 1994 FIFA World Cup. In another scandal, he tested positive for cocaine on 23 November 2004 while playing for an Ecuadorian football club.
In 2005, Higuita participated in the reality TV program ''La isla de los famosos: Una aventura pirata'' ("The Island of the Famous: A Pirate Adventure"), a show similar to ''Survivor''.
As of November 2009, his son Cristian Andrés Higuita was playing for Asociación Deportivo Cali and represented Colombia at the Sudamericano Sub-15.
Higuita has expressed the wish to become more politically active.

In 1996, Cedric moved into acting, playing Steve Harvey's friend, Cedric Jackie Robinson, on the sitcom, ''The Steve Harvey Show''. His acting career grew and he began appearing in movies, including ''Dr. Dolittle 2'', ''Barbershop'', ''Barbershop 2: Back in Business'', ''Ride'', ''Serving Sara'', ''Johnson Family Vacation'', ''Intolerable Cruelty'', ''Man of the House'', ''Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events'', ''Madagascar'' and ''Be Cool''. Cedric was the subject of controversy when his ''Barbershop'' character made unsavory remarks regarding Martin Luther King and Rosa Parks. These comments were spoken in character, were part of the script, and he has never apologized for them. In the 2005 animated film ''Madagascar'', Cedric voiced Maurice the aye aye. In October 2005, Cedric joined the Champ Car auto racing series as a part owner. Cedric appeared in the movie ''Charlotte's Web'' as the voice of Golly the gander. While his acting career grew, Cedric continued stand-up and traveled the country as one of the ''Kings of Comedy'' headliners, with Steve Harvey, D.L. Hughley and Bernie Mac. The act was later made into a film by Spike Lee called ''The Original Kings of Comedy''. Cedric briefly had his own sketch comedy show called ''Cedric the Entertainer Presents'', but it never caught on and was canceled after one season. The show had been renewed for a second season, but Fox canceled it before the season began. He then appeared in the 2003 PlayStation 2 video game ''Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2004''. His most recent HBO Comedy Special was titled ''Cedric "The Entertainer": Taking You Higher''. Two of the background dancers from the special were Kamilah Barrett and Sandra Colton, who were also finalists in Fox's ''So You Think You Can Dance''.
Cedric appeared in the 2007 film ''Code Name: The Cleaner'', a comedy in which he plays Jake, a janitor with amnesia who may be a secret undercover government agent involved in an illegal arms conspiracy. The film flopped, grossing under $10,000,000 out of its $20,000,000 budget. He then starred in the 2008 films ''Welcome Home Roscoe Jenkins'' and ''Street Kings''.
Cedric appeared as the lead comedian at the White House Correspondents Dinner but jokingly remarked that he was unprepared because he thought that he would follow a humorous speech by President George W. Bush but instead followed First Lady Laura Bush, who he commented was very funny.
Cedric the Entertainer was inducted to the St. Louis Walk of Fame on June 7, 2008. His star is located at 6166 Delmar.
Cedric the Entertainer was the special guest host for ''WWE Raw'' on September 21, 2009 in Little Rock Arkansas. During the show, he participated in a wrestling match, defeating Chavo Guerrero by pinfall. The match also featured Santino Marella as a guest referee. Cedric also got help with an unknown wrestler dubbed The Sledge Hammer and Hornswoggle.
In March 2000 Cedric filmed his Directorial Debut with Chicago Pulaski Jones, produced and funded independently by his company Bird and a Bear Entertainment with Producer Eric C. Rhone.
Cedric was recently seen in the Broadway revival of David Mamet's "American Buffalo," the story of three small-time crooks who come to blows during a plot to steal a valuable coin collection.
In 2003 Cedric was featured in the Korean rap artists Drunken Tiger on their album 'Foundation' on the 17th track '뉘우침' (repentance).
In a June 21, 2011 interview, Cedric confirmed that his latest reality game show, ''It's Worth What?'', was going to air on July 12, 2011 on NBC, however, the start date has been delayed by one week to July 19, 2011.
